Old Bishop Creek with New Bell Fixture
Cast Iron Lamppost Archives

pole
I shot this old bishop on Worth St., between Chatham and Foley Squares, around 1992. It had been spared the ignimony of having to wear a bucket light, shifting into the sodium era with a shiny new bell fixture, normally reserved for new retro-bishops. Note the photocell switch that has been implanted on the top of the bishop's head. My previous visit to this pole, in 1982, found it precariously clinging to life, with a bare incandescent bulb dangling from a wire.
