Archer Avenue and 143rd Street - Jamaica

I love this tunnel. It connects 143rd Street with Archer Avenue here, and 94th Avenue to the south. Above it runs the Long Island Railroad trunk line, and below, the 1980's vintage subway extension housing the E, J and Z lines. A troop of 1970's era railroad cars head west out of Jamaica Terminal a few blocks east. The tunnel's apparent height is deceiving, and vehicles unable to safely clear 11' are not allowed in. Even if they can easily pass beneath the highest middle section, they cannot run the risk of veering into the lower corners of the archway. On the southern side, the new Airtrain terminal is being built. Shot May 27th, 2001.
