Hillside Avenue and Sutphin Boulevard - Jamaica

east
Looking east above down Hillside Avenue towards Sutphin Boulevard. Below, a closeup of Sutphin facing south. Sutphin Blvd. is a major north-south bus route for South Jamaica communities stretching down to Rockaway Boulevard. This is where many of those bus riders will switch for the subway F line, although a goodly number will opt for the subway lines offered at Archer Avenue.

wider south
A wider view south brings one of the three main Queens courthouses into view, the other two being at Borough Hall in Kew Gardens and Court Square in Long Island City. Back in the pre-VietNam era, Sutphin was the center of the Jamaica shopping hub, and even today, it remains a busy, colorful artery. Two improbable corner mates eye one another here; the very British HSBC Bank and the Ragin' Cajun style Popeye's Fried Chicken.
