This is the endangered, ticketed
OV-25, with the Jackie Robinson (ex Interboro) Parkway behind
it. The overpass arch is typical for most parkway overpasses
within NYC, although this one lost it's stone facing a few years
ago when it was rebuilt. The Cross Bronx Expressway (Interstate
95) also had stone-arch overpasses. The city got stingier a couple of years after that expressway was built in the late 50's. The Long Island Expressway's older overpasses, while arched, were not faced with anything but a red and beige cement paint job. I believe that the fixture, visible on the parkway, is a product of one one of Cooper Industries subs. The way it's diffuser juts out, makes it look like somebody gave it a fat lip. Update 1/99: The OV25 is alive and well. After eons, it was finally fitted with a new mercury lamp. |
