This is a nearly forgotten street, leading to a barely known neighborhood, Warnerville, off Brookville Blvd, one block west of Rockaway Blvd, by the Queens/Nassau county line. As of 1992, It still had the open-type GE M100 "Scooper Wedge" mercury fixtures from the mid 60's, which were farely common in Queens neighborhoods where streetlights hung off of telephone poles. Occassionally, they appeared on freestanding poles. I don't believe they ever were installed in Manhattan.
UPDATE 7/2000: The M100 Scoopers were still there, as Kevin Walsh and I trekked through Warnerville on our way to check out other streetside rarities in the Rockaways.
Below is the scene from the right, 8 years later, nearly unchanged, save for the puddles. The first scooper also survives, albeit unseen in the newer photo. Even the two cranes remain parked in their yard. Warnerville is home to more stowed construction equipment than people. Yet, in the midst of all that, there is a seafood restaurant, just around the next corner to the left.
