| Hands Up! Anyone remember that horrifying Club Med line dance song? A better question would actually be if anyone in New York city remembers how to read. apparently many have a problem reading "WALK" and "DONT WALK", because the relentless massacre and unbridled slaughter of all analog, spelled out crossing signals is on in the Big Apple. What seemed a mere trickle a couple of months ago has turned into a tidal wave as these new LED digital Hand/Stick Figure signals spread like wildfire across Queens, and I'm sure the other boroughs as well. This specimen of the new order is at Union Turnpike and the Cross Island Parkway. Hand in hand, non pun intended, with their placement has been the installation of a new richer, more luminous green on the accompanying traffic lights. I'm assuming these new greens are also LED, although in every case it appears no change has been made to the amber and red signals. I've noticed these changes particularly around the parkways and their service roads. Reporting from the vicinity of Creedmoor, July 7th, 2001. |
