Stick Figure
From the "It Figures" file, pun intended. The alter ego of the illustration from Union Turnpike; this one being from Hillside Avenue and the Cross Island, also July 7th, 2001. Now, when are all the women's groups going to complain about the obvious gender of the figure? And how about those of the not-quite-caucasion persuasion, given that the figure is lit in white diodes? Why, after all, with the walk signal being in essense, a green light to cross, is the figure not made from racially neutral and more to the point green LEDs? How about the handicapped? Shouldn't at least one of the normal eight such signals to be found at a normal corner be of a wheelchair bound figure, or one stooped with a cane? As long as all this replacement was taking place, why weren't chirping sounds added for the blind? And where are this poor soul's hands and feet?
