![]() I nabbed these old Black-on-white corner signs in the mid 80's, when my father lived a couple of blocks down 67th. These are the signs that disappeared en masse, from countless NYC corners in the late 60's, in favor of the bigger and brighter signs, personafied by the Clearview/73rd sign on this site. |

It's a fair bet, that when these old corner signs went up,
this Fresh Meadows, Queens neighborhood didn't worry too much
about burglars. A true sign of these times emphasises the social
changes the old corner signs had witnessed over their 40 year
lifespan.
Sadly, both these corner signs and their metal rims are gone now.
Their lonely brackets continue to cling to the utility pole.
