Cast Iron Twin Lamp Masts Canal Street West Side
This was a superbly, unique specimen of cast iron twin lamp lamppost. It appeared to be of the more modern 5th Avenue replacement generation type, yet sported the bulbous ball like decoration where the two mast arms meet the stanchion that was the hallmark feature of the oldest original 5th Avenue twin lampers. It was also in beautiful condition, at least from a respectable distance, as opposed to the ratty condition most fellow surviving cast iron twin lamps were in.
This post stood sentinel watch over the delta where Canal Street met its western terminus at the old West Side Highway. a little bit of the old West Side Highway Canal Steet viaduct is visible behind it.
Note the great condition of all the post's finials, and that wicked spike on top.
