Clam shells are a type of street light luminaire characterized by a clam shell shape. Notable examples were the GE Form 109 and Westinghouse OV20. They were the first mercury vapor fluorescent street lighting fixtures, first deployed in the late 1940s, and presaged the cobra head styles that began to supplant them a decade later.
