Jackie Robinson Parkway Highland Park

Jackie Robinson Parkway Highland Park Image 0Brooklyn's Highland Park peeks out from the other side of the old Interboro Parkway, passing over the side street. A 1960's vintage GE M400 mercury vapor street light still stands guard over the way. I nicknamed those venerable light fixtures "Disgusteds" because depending on the way the sun reflected off of their diffusers, they appeared to give off a disgusted expression. Their frequent counterpart back in the day, the "Cheerful" looking Westinghouse Silverliners, were still plentiful within Highland Park on the other side of the overpass.
Taken in May 1997, around the time that the old Interboro Parkway, more formally spelled Interborough, was renamed in honor of the late great Brooklyn Dodger baseball player, Jackie Robinson.
